Please read before using this app. It shows general ocean and weather conditions to help you plan. It does not determine whether any beach, activity, or moment is safe, and favorable-looking data is never a guarantee of safety.
Wave, wind, tide, and current conditions on Kauaʻi can change within minutes. The data comes from third-party public services, including the National Weather Service (NOAA) and Open-Meteo, and may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any information shown, including data from those services. Always observe actual conditions before entering the water.
This app does not replace lifeguards, posted warning flags and signs, or official advisories from the County of Kauaʻi and the National Weather Service — those always override what is shown here. When in doubt, stay on shore. If a beach has no lifeguard, the safest thing is often not to swim. You alone are responsible for your decisions and your safety.
In any emergency, call 911 immediately. The Kauaʻi Ocean Safety Bureau and Kauaʻi Fire Department respond to ocean emergencies.
Swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and other ocean activities carry inherent risks of serious injury and death, including from waves, shorebreak, and currents that are natural and not always visible. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the creators and distributors of this app are not responsible for any injury, illness, death, or property damage arising from use of this app or its information, whether based on contract, negligence, or any other theory. You assume all risk when entering the ocean or visiting any location shown.

No accounts and no signup — we never learn your name. We use privacy-respecting analytics and, on partner links, a visit counter; both turn off if your browser sends Do Not Track. If you tap Locate Me, a ~1 km-rounded position goes to our server to fetch your local forecast. Full detail: oceansafety.app/privacy.
Add Kauaʻi Beach Guide to your home screen for one-tap access — works offline too.
1. Tap the Share button (square with up arrow) at the bottom of Safari
2. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
3. Tap Add in the top right
1. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right
2. Tap Add to Home Screen or Install App
3. Tap Install to confirm
1. Look for the install icon (⊕ or download symbol) in the URL bar on the right

Why install? Faster access, full-screen experience, works offline at the beach where signal is weak.

No accounts, no signup, no login — we never learn your name. This is the short version; the full, code-audited policy lives at oceansafety.app/privacy.
If you tap Locate Me, a position rounded to about 1 km is sent to our server to fetch your local forecast — your exact position stays on your device. We count visits with privacy-respecting analytics (PostHog), watch for crashes (Sentry), and, on partner links, count opens. All of it rides a random id, never your name.
We don't sell your data, run ads, build ad profiles, or set tracking cookies. If your browser sends Do Not Track, we turn all counting off.
Clear site data in your browser to wipe everything held on your device. Questions or deletion: privacy@oceansafety.app. Full detail — including every third party that sees your visit — is at oceansafety.app/privacy.
